Montana: Extreme Heat & Cold

Montana's 2017 wildfire season was its most destructive since 1910. June through August were the hottest and driest months on record, with fires that killed two and scorched roughly 1.3 million acres. The fires were unstoppable, until a mid-September snowstorm dumped up to three feet of snow that doused the fires but led to an extreme winter. Late-December cold in Northwest Montana brought up to another 4 feet of snow and lows of -37°F.
