Houston: Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast on August 25, 2017, as a Category 4 hurricane. Its then stalled over Houston for days, dumping over 30 inches of rain, and nearly 52 inches of rain at Cedar Bayou, setting a new North American record. The flooding damaged over 200,000 homes and businesses and resulted in 103 deaths across Texas. Total damage estimates range from $125-$160 billion.

We met with Barbara in the backyard of her home, still in the midst of repairs, eight months after the floods from Hurricane Harvey left a trail of destruction through Houston, Texas. She shared a few of the never-ending list of challenges and "flood brain" weariness in trying to recover from an event like this, from rescuing your cat, to chasing down your mail, to selecting new door knobs.
